1 versus 2

No matter how you stack them, Duke and Wake Forest will be number 1 and 2 in the AP and coaches poll after this weekend, possibly setting up another number 1 versus number 2 battle next Wednesday (the 28th) at littlejohn colliseum. Of course Wake might lose to Virginia Tech or Duke might lose to NC State or Maryland, but either way I am already starting to catch that ACC fever.

If UConn loses this week we might have a 1-2-3 Wake-Duke-UNC poll next week. I thought Duke was going to have a much tougher time with G-town than they did. Maybe it was a little Cameron home cooking, but Duke played well. I think the ACC is right now the best conference in the country, and the Big East is going to have to show me something to prove otherwise.

Reanalyzing my dislike of Mike Patrick

Maybe it is a case of absence making the heart grow fonder, but after the debacle of listening to Mike Tirico, Jeff Van Gundy, and Mark Jackson talk amongst themselves while they sat in the broadcast booth of Cameron last night, I yearn for the known quantity of Mike Patrick. Even if Patrick has a tendency to overpraise every ACC player and coach, at least he pays attention to the game and bothers to fill the viewer in on confusing plays.

For example, when Kyle Singler was dribbling at the top of the key and a foul was called to put Scheyer on the line, I don't think Patrick would have given it the Van Gundy treatment, "I thought Singler had the ball there, oh well." Patrick probably would have taken the time to clarify what the call was. Also, I think when the game started getting close between the 8 and 4 minute marks, Patrick would have focused the attention on the game, as opposed to Mike Tirico letting Van Gundy and Jackson add another chapter to their ongoing made for TV feud.

That is the best NBA team that ESPN has? Wow. Mike Patrick, I offer you my apologies: I threw out the baby with the bathwater.
